Chronic unnecessary work disability is not the result of a lack of available information or research to successfully address the matter; to argue otherwise is counterproductive to making meaningful change in the outcomes for injured and/or ill workers. Instead, the problem arises from the lack of a cohesive, evidence-based, and unifying approach that is sufficient to address the modifiable determinants that impact on worker Vocational Recovery and RTW outcomes.

There is mounting evidence that health outcomes and RTW outcomes do not track well together. Evidence is gathering that simply focusing on recovery is not sufficient to move the needle on duration and RTW outcomes.
